Went to the bariatric doctor yesterday. Seems the gastric-band doesn't work for a lot of people, I'm not the only one. Which I knew, but didn't realize just how many were failing. "We are taking out more bands than we are putting in" is what she told me. Pretty sad... Together we have decided to take out my band and have the gastric-bypass surgery instead. She said that my esophagus is all messed up. To try to heal it, we emptied my band, basically one of the most painful things I've experienced in a while! There was only 7mL's in there but it felt like 3 cups!! I suddenly felt nauseous and eventually threw up right there in the office. I felt so bad but it finally passed and I was able to get some water down. She put me on phentermine which is a stimulant that is suppose to suppress my appetite. I went ahead and started it yesterday and it sure worked!!! I didn't feel hungry at all yesterday (but still ate some dinner-no more than if my band was full). I will admit...it was nice eating without getting "clogged". Everything went down so easy! I hope to enjoy that while I can.
Moving forward, I have no idea how I'm going to come up with the money for the gastric-bypass surgery. My insurance only covers 70% which will probably leave me around $6000-$7000 to pay out of pocket. We have SO many repairs that need to be done to the house first, ceiling in the living room is spitting worse and worse, our garage door is broke, our bathroom shower has the tiles falling off the wall......those are the big ones. And so I feel selfish trying to figure out how to get my surgery while I see all these other things that need to be done. Hopefully on the phentermine I can either maintain/loose weight and put the surgery off for a little bit. Like I have a choice? What would be awesome is if I could loose a bunch of weight on the phentermine then use the band again to maintain what I've lost! Then no second surgery would be needed!
I'm praying for God's help and guidance on what to do with this situation. I can only do this with His help. I sure can't do it on my own.
